SLS supports learning and literacy in schools by adding value to the school library

Our service can

  • Help school staff to meet the demands of parents and governors in providing pupils with a well organised library as the foundation to the curriculum.
  • Encourage a love of reading throughout the school providing exciting and stimulating library materials for learning and leisure.
  • Support school staff through literacy and library training, through professional help and access to professional literature.

  • Library development support from our team of professional librarians.
  • Relevant up to date books and resources to support the curriculum and promote reading for enjoyment.
  • A dual language and multi ethnic collection with books in over 50 different languages.
  • Books to support special situations (such as bullying and bereavement).
  • Support to secondary school librarians through a CPD programme.
  • Resources to the secondary school librarian through access to the Hertfordshire public library catalogue and the British Library.
  • A training and events programme, (recent speakers include Philip Ardagh, Chris Wormell, Emily Gravett, Sally Prue and Deborah Moggach).
  • Substantial discounts on books purchased.
  • Advice on library automation.
