Thursday
18th March 2010 : (KS1 9.30 - 11.45) (KS2 1.00- 3.00)
Course
description: The
popular Picture a Story event will take place next March, again in conjunction
with the Hertfordshire County Art Collection. We have produced a shortlist
of books for you to read during the Spring Term and an information pack.
Your school may also take part in an optional art competition which
will be judged by Catherine on the day, details of which will be confirmed
in the information pack.
On
the 18th March you may bring along up to six children to hear Catherine
Rayner speak about her books and inspiration for her artwork.
In
addition the children will be able to participate in an art trail, relevant
to the short-listed titles, which will include original art and artefacts
from the Hertfordshire Art Collection. There will be a separate selection
of art and questions for KS1 and KS2.
Suitable
for: All schools
interested in raising the profile of reading and art at KS1 and KS2
Guest
speaker/illustrator: Catherine Rayner
CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal Winner 2009 for Harris finds his Feet. Award
winning author and illustrator Catherine Rayner studied illustration
at Edinburgh College of Art. She fell in love with the city and still
lives there with a small menagerie of creatures: Shannon the horse,
Ena the grey cat, goldfish Sheila and a speckly black and tan guinea
pig called Marvin. Catherine loved to draw from an early age, and from
the age of 4 started making books about her pets. She also loved picture
books and not surprisingly her favourites all featured animals.
This
year Catherine has been selected as one of the ten best new illustrators
for Booktrust's 'Big Picture Campaign' , which is an initiative designed
to put picture books firmly in the public eye.
