description: Study
Support and the Extended Schools Agenda - a role for the secondary school
library. By September 2010 all state secondary schools will be expected
to open from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday to Friday and some at the weekends
too, offering a range of activities to young people up to the age of
14 years. Many will be offering Homework Clubs. Here is a really important
potential role for the school library in working effectively to raise
attainment for young people in the curriculum but beyond the school
day.
Suitable
for: Secondary
school librarians, head of departments, and any other interested staff.
Facilitator:
Geoff Dubber is a freelance consultant/trainer working in the
UK and further afield to promote effective library use. He has over
35 years teaching, management, library and advisory experience with
schools, both secondary and primary. He is currently Chair of the School
Library Association. He is author of many of the SLA's Guidelines series
and he writes and reviews for the School Librarian.

basics of setting up and running an effective homework club
(rather than simply keeping the library open after school)

particular situation and how they might move forward with undoubted
benefit to raising the library profile with young people and
adults in school
