Understanding the online video catalogue

Looking up programmes in the online video catalogue
The programmes are listed using the Dewey Decimal Classification system. This numerical system is used internationally to arrange library materials in a consistent and logical order. It works by dividing the whole of knowledge into ten broad categories and then by continuing to sub-divide each category into more detail e.g.

Natural Sciences
- Physics
- Sound
500
530
534

There is a place for every subject and related subjects are located near to each other. To help you there is an outline version of the Dewey classifications here.

Each entry in the catalogue provides the following details:-
Dewey: Helps you find different programmes on a particular subject by grouping them together.
Title: The individual programme title
Series: Many programmes are part of a series, a series can have several units, a unit several programmes.
Age: The age the broadcasters suggest the programme is aimed at.
Description: A brief outline of the programme.
U No Identifies to SLS an individual programme.
