| In
advance of the Hertfordshire Carnegie Greenaway Day participants
were sent six novels and six picture books to read and form opinions
about. On the nomination day the books were discussed in small groups
with each participant introducing one title to the group. A vote
was taken to select two titles to go forward as the Hertfordshire
nomination for the national Carnegie and Greenaway awards.
|
| The
keynote speaker for this event was Frank Cottrell Boyce, an established
screenwriter with a Bafta nomination amongst his credits. Frank
claims a long-standing ambition has been to write a children's novel.
Millions is the result of this ambition but it was originally written
as a screen play and it wasn't until filming started that he had
the daunting idea of turning it into his debut book. It was a great
success and Millions won the 2004 Carnegie medal whilst his second
novel Framed has been short listed for the 2005 medal. A further
two novels are contracted. |
