| We
ran Picture A Story with great success in our school. Staff read the
books to classes initially. Discussion groups were created and this
was followed up with associated activities such as story writing,
drama and art. Six children, who would be attending the event, also
took books home to read and reported back to the group, both negative
and positive reports being encouraged. |
| The
success of the event was due to the lively, challenging nature of
the books, the enthusiasm and commitment of the children and especially
of the parents of the six event children. This promoted good parent-school
PR! The parents read some of the books and discussed their favourites
with me. "Belonging" was enjoyed very much. |
| The
pupils gained increased enthusiasm for sharing and reviewing books,
as well as a greater willingness to try books to which they might
not initially be attracted. Owing to demand from the children I will
continue to use this method of sharing newly purchased and existing
books throughout next term. |
We
thought the balance of books selected for the event was good, and
the day itself came well up to our expectations. It was an exciting
event that we hope to be part of next year.
