with Philip Ardagh
8th October 2008

Hertfordshire Schools Library Service is pleased to announce that, as part of a government initiative entitled "Boys into Books", a collection of 30 books is being given to every Hertfordshire County Council school with boys in this age group.

The purpose of the "Boys into Books" collection is to encourage boys between the ages of 5 and 11 to enjoy reading. To celebrate this we invited you to join us to listen to Philip Ardagh speak.

We invite each school to choose their own books from over 200 different fiction and non-fiction titles. The entire collection is on display on our mobile library and at the Schools Library Service in Hatfield. You can obtain your selection of 30 books in the following ways:

  • Visit us at the Schools Library Service at a time convenient to you to choose your collection.
  • We'd like you to be involved in choosing your books, but you can ask us to put together a collection for you for delivery to your school.
  • If you have membership of the Schools Library Service, you can choose the books on your regular mobile library visit.

Tall, bearded Philip Ardagh has written more than sixty children's books for all ages. He has written non-fiction books on subjects such as Egyptian hieroglyphs and archaeology, but is perhaps best known for his novels about Eddie Dickens. His book Philip Ardagh's book of absolutely useless lists is one of the Boys Into Books titles.
