A
discussion day based on the Red House Children's Book Award shortlists.
Each school sent six pupils to the discussion day, Pupils were expected
to have read all the books in the categories nominated. There were
two separate sessions to take account of the wide variety of ages
of participating schools, and both sessions included a talk by our
guest speaker Andy Stanton, the author of "You're A Bad Man,
Mr Gum!" which was the overall winner of the 2007 Red House
Children's Book Award.
This year, the National Year Of Reading, the Schools Library Service
is very pleased to be running the Children's Choice event in conjunction
with the Red House Children's Book Award. This book prize is organise
by the Federation of Children's Book Groups and is the only major
book award in the UK that is judged entirely by children.
We
asked you to vote on your favourites from the shortlists, in the
Younger Readers category you chose Ottoline and the yellow cat by
Chris Riddell, (a visitor to SLS) and in the Older Readers category
the winner was Skulduggery Pleasant by Derek Landy.
